Dates: November 20th 2017 to January 30th 2018
These residency periods outside of AiR Sefrou’s designed programs are focused towards artists from all disciplines to spend time contemplating, researching and producing work that needs attention. It may be that the artists are residing alone or with up to five others in the house. Cultures and material of work will be diverse.
The artists house (a stone’s throw away from AIR Sefrou’s office), is nestled in the heart of the ancient medina in Sefrou ( a market town positioned between the Middle Atlas Mountains and the Imperial Capital of Fez).
Our intimate team and growing community are here to support artists in their endeavours while introducing them to beneficial contacts and orientating them to local gatherings, if desired. Assistance to the artist and project facilitators are available upon prior request at a reasonable rate to help with the construction of works and further cultural exploration. Language interpretation and intercultural facilitation may be needed to help the artists in residence to understand the cultural landscape and manifest their vision:
We are open to holding presentations, exhibitions and workshops during the residency. This can be discussed once the intentions take shape.
Artists may get involved with Culture Vultures socially responsible program. Past events have included works such as a mural on a wall in the old city, planting green areas, public monuments and a contribution to our ‘Art in the Hospital’ initiative.
The minimum duration of a residency is three weeks.
This enables time to integrate into the culture as well as having days for comprehensive research and production.
2 month 1200 euros.
Cost of production, transport, insurance and daily needs are the responsibilities of the artist. For studio spaces (outside of the lodgings), facilitated visits and exhibition organization e-mail us for a supplementary costs document.
For returning AiR Sefrou artists there is a discount of 15% for residencies as we, the organization and the community of Sefrou, celebrate further developing relationships and creations.
*Each artist is allocated a large bedroom with ample space and a desk. Not all the bedrooms have an en-suit bathroom. For more of an impression of the residency’s practicalities view a short video HERE.
